Academic Campus Update

"Classic Companies made history by donating the single largest piece of land in Academy School District 20's history. Because of their generosity, we were able to construct a Pre K-12 campus which focuses on the sciences and mathematics. The interest in our program has been overwhelming!"

Discovery Canyon Campus
Official Academic Campus of Flying Horse...

A new, unique school concept is currently under construction at 1810 Northgate Road in the Flying Horse Ranch development. The PreK through grade 12 school was officially named Discovery Canyon Campus at the Academy District 20 Board of Education meeting Oct. 7. The campus opens in fall 2005 for fifth and sixth grade students.

The choice theme for the campus is science/mathematics study integrating space and aviation sciences. A complete offering of all curricular, co/extra curricular programs and activities, fine/performing arts, world languages, and athletics will also be available for students.

Construction of the $72 million facility began in June 2004 and is being paid for with bond funds approved by District 20 voters in 2001. When the campus is finished, athletic fields, support resources, curricular materials, and other physical components of the campus will be shared by appropriate student age levels. Among the advantages for the multi-level campus are opportunities for students to engage in learning experiences matched to their intellectual abilities. There will be an optional International Baccalaureate (IB) strand for all students and IB instructional methodologies and strategies will be used by all staff.
